Episode Synopsis: Continuing our conversation around internal work, I talk with Ashley Junghans-Rutelonis, PhD, a licensed clinical psychologist, who works with high-achieving women to reinvigorate resiliency, support mental health, and improve core leadership skills. As we know, many women don’t prioritize their physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual health and, if they do, they tend to feel guilty or selfish. In this episode, we explore some of the reasons why that is, ways to take care of ourselves, and how to lose the guilt. We also talk about why some people tend to sabotage our efforts to improve ourselves. There’s more to it than you think.
After Thoughts: We could have talked for days! This is a complex topic but one that I hear about all the time. As women, we want to have it all: the marriage, kids, an amazing job, and keep ourselves in tip top shape while we’re at it. That’s a lot to juggle without something getting lost. I think you’ll find our conversation very relatable but you’ll also find some tools to help you take better care of yourself without the guilt and navigate the saboteurs.

Episode Synopsis: One of the reasons I wanted to do this podcast was to hear about how other people successfully navigate their weight loss journeys. I wanted to find out what daily actions and habits they found worked to keep them on track and how they kept motivated. I also wanted to find out what made them get started in the first place. In this episode, we talk with Amy, who shares her story, how she lost over 80 pounds and has kept it off through healthy eating, exercise, and great attitude.
After Thoughts: I met Amy online through WW. I found her straight-talk and sense of humor refreshing. I tend to gravitate toward people keep it real and don’t sugar coat the truth but are able to remain kind and compassionate. That’s Amy! I think you’ll really enjoy hearing Amy’s story and find it inspiring and helpful for your own journey. She provides a lot of great strategies for success.

Episode Synopsis: Most of us go there at some time or another. Something goes wrong that derails and we immediately start with the negative self-talk. In this episode, we talk with Devin Vicknair, PhD, a behavioral health specialist who helps us take a deep dive into negative self-talk, why we are so prone to go there, and how it impacts our health goals. We also talk about decision fatigue and why as the day grows longer, our ability to make healthy decisions goes down, impacting our ability to stay on track. After Thoughts: I am a firm believer that we cannot shame or hate ourselves to good health, but we can love ourselves to good health and that’s why I enjoyed this conversation so much. Breaking down why we tend to beat ourselves up when we stumble was an important discussion for me because I struggle with this, too. I also wanted to talk about something I don’t subscribe to—willpower. I find it only sets us up to feel bad and weak so when he talked about decision fatigue, I was all ears! I think you’ll find it to be a fascinating episode.

After Thoughts: I loved this discussion, not only because Christine is a dear friend of mine, but because she is incredibly knowledgeable about auto immune disorders and how nutrition and movement can positively impact how you manage them. We have had similar experiences and challenges, so I enjoy talking with her anyway, but she has worked relentlessly to reclaim her health and that, I find inspiring. I think you will, too.
